Welcome to the JSummary Project!
We get our beliefs from those we trust
When born into this world we don’t know our purpose or how to live our lives. We learn this information from parents, teachers, and others whom we trust. We then consider ourselves to be morally right.
But the chance that we got every belief right is zero
Jewish beliefs come from 613 Commandments in the Torah plus numerous rules and traditions created by sages for three millennia. These rules cover every aspect of life, including what to eat, what to wear, how to pray, how to celebrate, etc…
Most rules allow multiple interpretations, and revisions are needed in every generation.
As a result, Judaism is divided into Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Secular, Reconstructionist, Karaite, and other groups and sub-groups.
How do we find the right path and make the best choices in life?
Everything is Illuminated
– a powerful book & movie by Jonathan Safran Foer shows that history shines light on who we are and what our destiny must be.
History is often ambiguous and the only way to discover the truth is by doing a thorough study. It starts with the Torah and should also include what we know from modern history and scientific research. This info can then be used to evaluate traditions and opinions.
It is imperative for each of us to take this journey, understand who we are, and live our lives in the most meaningful way.
JSummary project helps organize Jewish learning by:
1. Summarizing the
, making it easier to understand & remember.
2. Researching & analyzing information found in the Torah.
3. Making conclusions based on this information.
